Behind the Scenes
For all the fun times of learning, preparation, and bonding that is hard to show in an exhibition.
Sometimes we'd go off campus to eat and discuss social practice, or we'd journey through Portland to meet people and see places for inspiration. Sometimes we'd collectively create a physical representation of our ideas; other times we'd take Polaroids.
Near the beginning of the semester, we journeyed to get food just off campus while discussing aspects that could be part of our maps of influence— tangible objects or papers showing different aspects of our lives that impact our art.
Good food helped encourage an open environment.
Going a bit further into the semester, we identified what influenced our art as individuals and as a collective class. It involved a tattooed orange, obtaining Slurpees, and... there seems to be a food theme here, isn't there?

As we became more in tune with social practice, we journeyed around Portland to learn more about its past. This involved meeting people in the community, reading about social practice, and well, practicing social practice.

The picture below was taken when we visited Harriet Tubman Middle School and learned about the air quality and highway expansion issues they're dealing with. We also visited Jefferson High School that same day, learning about the problems with rebuilding the school given its history.
Now that we're in the groove of practicing social practice, we're still learning from people in our community, but we're also contributing our own efforts into the social practice art world. Problem solving and checking in with each other tends to increase our group cohesion, resulting in projects and interactions that we're pretty happy with :)

Polaroids Galore
We enjoy documenting our process in lots of ways— Polaroid photos being one of them.
Pop Quizzes
To help us think about our next steps, Michael sometimes gives us pop quizzes to articulate our thoughts. And when we'd have extra time afterwards, it seems we collectively doodled in various ways.
